Proven 3-Step System for CA(SA)'s to Find a Job Overseas

Let me tell you a quick story – Siphiwe hails from a rural part of natal. He attended a farm school that had an educational standard well below the likes of the average public schools in the cities. 

He walked to and from school in the heat up to 3 hours a day. He studied by candlelight in a crowded shack with his siblings and family all around him. His parents were poor and struggled to pay for his education. Fortunately, he was able to attend the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal as he obtained a bursary. He chose to study accounting and wanted to become a CA(SA).
 
Despite all his hardship, Siphiwe qualified as a CA(SA) after completing his articles at a local audit firm in Durban. Seeing so many other CA(SA)'s find jobs overseas and prosper, he was determined to get out of South Africa. He dreamed of working in London or NY. 

He spent months applying for various accounting and audit roles (in the UK and US) on LinkedIn and other online job sites. He must have applied for over a thousand jobs and still wasn't able to land single interview. He found a few international recruitment agents on LinkedIn hoping they would be able to help him. They never got back to him and some totally ignored him. 

After almost a year of trying and zero luck, Siphiwe was about to give up on this dream and move to Johannesburg instead. Despite all the hardship and obstacles he had to overcome throughout his life, getting out of South Africa seemed to be the most challenging. 

One night as he was scrolling on LinkedIn, he came across my profile and was intrigued as I had worked in multiple countries. Siphiwe reached out to me and I shared the strategies that I have used to work in Boston, Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore. 

Siphiwe immediately implemented these strategies and 3 months later secured a job and booked a one-way ticket to London to begin a new chapter of his life. Siphiwe later told me that he shared these strategies with some of his friends and they have been able to emigrate to the UK, Australia, Amsterdam and Ireland. 

Seeing the positive results, I documented these strategies and distilled it into this Proven 3-Step Job Search System. Today, I am sharing it with other aspiring CA(SA)'s to empower them as well.

A Globally Recognized Qualification

As can be seen from the above extract, SAICA has signed reciprocal agreements with the above international accounting bodies. This means that a CA(SA) can emigrate to one of the countries above and convert their CA(SA) into the local qualification without needing to take the local exams. 

In my example, after emigrating to Hong Kong, I converted my CA(SA) into HKICPA. Being a member of HKICPA, I was able to attend their events and grow my business network in HK. 

This global recognition is testament that the CA(SA) is one of the most rigorous and difficult programs in the world. 

Furthermore, South Africa’s auditing profession had been ranked first by the World Economic Forum for six years in a row until recently due to the KPMG Gupta scandal. 

And lastly, you don't have to look too hard to find CA(SA)'s commanding top positions in large corporations all over the world.

Why is the Proven 3-Step Job System so successful?

As illustrated in the image above, (and as myself and Siphiwe did in the beginning), most CA's search for jobs online or via recruiters. 

Unbeknown to Siphiwe, he was one of a vast number of qualified accountants with exactly the same experience applying for the same limited number of advertised jobs! And not only was he competing with CA(SA)'s but with CA's and CPA's around the world.

However, the Proven 3-Step Job System enabled Siphiwe to stand apart and get noticed.

Furthermore, it allowed Siphiwe to apply for Jobs that other CA's didn't even know existed! As such, Siphiwe faced no competition!

What most CA's don’t know is that over 80% of available jobs in the market are not even advertised – This is the hidden job market (see image below).

The Referral Method is an age-old method and has been around before job portals and recruitment agents. Referrals work because of basic human psychology, trust and a concept called social proof.

Say you are looking to hire a domestic helper or a nanny. Would you randomly pick someone from the newspaper or are you more likely to trust someone a friend vouches for and recommends to you.

Integrity and ethics are very important to Company Executives when hiring, as such they are more likely to be comfortable hiring you when someone internally that they trust vouches for you and refers you for the job.
